Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has reached out to the family of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, assuring them of his and the Congress party’s support following Kejriwal’s arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday, according to party sources.
Rahul Gandhi is planning to meet either Kejriwal or his family on Friday to offer further legal assistance, as per the source.
The Enforcement Directorate’s team arrived at Kejriwal’s residence on Thursday to interrogate him in connection with the liquor policy case. Amidst dramatic circumstances, Kejriwal was arrested after failing to obtain interim protection from arrest in the case from the Delhi High Court. Subsequently, he was taken to the ED headquarters, where a medical team also arrived.
Following Kejriwal’s arrest, AAP workers and leaders rallied behind him, while leaders of the INDIA bloc extended their support. In contrast, BJP leaders supported the ED’s actions, emphasizing the importance of truth prevailing.
Delhi Minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader Atishi criticized the BJP, accusing them of using the ED for political gains. She urged the BJP to engage in fair political competition rather than resorting to undemocratic tactics.
Atishi also announced that they had moved the Supreme Court to quash Kejriwal’s arrest and had sought an urgent hearing.
“We have moved the Supreme Court to quash the arrest of Delhi CM @ArvindKejriwal by ED. We have asked for an urgent hearing by the Supreme Court tonight itself,” Atishi stated in a post on X platform.
The situation surrounding Kejriwal’s arrest has sparked political debates, with various parties and leaders expressing their viewpoints on the matter.
