On Saturday afternoon, senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi vacated his official bungalow in New Delhi following his disqualification as a Member of Parliament. A truck loaded with furniture was seen leaving his bungalow at 12 Tughlak Lane.
Earlier, Gandhi began the process of vacating his official bungalow and relocating his belongings to his mother Sonia Gandhi’s 10 Janpath residence after being served with a notice to do so by April 22 following his disqualification. The decision to vacate the bungalow came a day after the Surat Sessions Court ruled on his interim application for a stay of execution in the defamation case on April 20.
On April 3, the court granted bail to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who had filed an appeal following his conviction. According to reports, it is unclear whether Rahul Gandhi will permanently relocate to UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi’s residence, and his office is also looking for another house, which will be finalised after receiving the green light from security agencies, as Gandhi has Z+ security.
The Lok Sabha Secretariat served Rahul Gandhi with a notice to vacate the government bungalow on March 27 following his disqualification as a Lok Sabha MP following his conviction in a 2019 defamation case by the Surat court for a ‘Modi surname’ remark.
The opposition parties had slammed the government for disqualifying Rahul Gandhi from the Lok Sabha. The Congress leader was elected to the House from Wayanad in the 2019 general elections.
