Rail Blockade By Farmers In Punjab, Ahead of Talks with Centre

About 200 farmers converged at railway stations in Punjab, obstructing train tracks as their ongoing standoff with the Union government persisted on Thursday. In reaction to the escalating protest, the Haryana government suspended internet services until the night of February 16 along the border with Punjab, where thousands of farmers are endeavoring to breach barricades en route to Delhi.

Amidst the ongoing ‘Delhi Chalo’ march, the Centre and farmer leaders are preparing for a third round of discussions, with thousands of farmers determined to continue their protest. Union Ministers Arjun Munda, Piyush Goyal, and Nityanand Rai are scheduled to engage in a video conference with representatives of the protesting farmer unions later today.

Following unsuccessful previous meetings, farmers initiated their protest march on Tuesday, February 13.

According to sources cited by news agency PTI, Senior Union Ministers, including Rajnath Singh and Arjun Munda, engaged in discussions on Wednesday to address the ongoing farmers’ protests and associated issues. The specifics of the meeting have not been revealed yet. During the discussion, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who previously served as the Agriculture Minister, deliberated on various concerns raised by farmers with Munda, who currently oversees the Agriculture Ministry and has been actively involved in prior dialogues with farmer groups.
