Railway Protection Force Seizes More Than Rs.15 Lakhs Worth Ganja In Over 3 Days, 17 Apprehended

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway has escalated its crackdown on the transportation of illegal goods via railways, resulting in the confiscation of contraband valued at over Rs 16.7 lakh within a span of three days. Sabyasachi De, Chief Public Relations Officer of Northeast Frontier Railway, reported that the RPF conducted extensive operations at various railway stations including Agartala, Dimapur, Bagdogra, Rangiya, and Kishanganj from March 18 to March 21.

During these operations, approximately 167 kg of contraband, predominantly ganja, was seized, and 17 suspects were apprehended. The seized items and detainees were subsequently handed over to the respective authorities for further action.

Speaking on the same, Sabyasachi De stated, “Throughout the operations, approximately 167 kg of ganja was confiscated, and 17 individuals were apprehended. The apprehended individuals and confiscated items were later transferred to the respective local police stations for further legal proceedings.”

In one incident on March 20, the RPF team at Agartala railway station conducted a routine check and identified several suspicious individuals carrying bags. Upon inspection, approximately 48 kg of ganja, valued at about Rs 4.80 lakh, was discovered. Six individuals were apprehended in connection with the case, and they, along with the seized ganja, were handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP) of Agartala for further action.

Additionally, during various checks conducted over the specified period, the RPF confiscated an additional 119 kg of ganja from trains and stations, leading to the apprehension of 11 individuals. Similar to previous instances, the seized ganja and detained individuals were handed over to the relevant authorities for further legal proceedings.
