“Rajasthan will also conduct caste census like Bihar”, says CM Ashok Gehlot

Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot announcement comes after Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Congress General Secretary, recently announced a similar intent for Chhattisgarh.

“Rajasthan will also conduct caste census like Bihar”, says CM Ashok Gehlot

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has disclosed plans to implement a caste-based census in the state, taking inspiration from Bihar’s recent initiative. Gehlot made this announcement during a media briefing following a state party meeting in Jaipur.

He cited Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s endorsement of the caste census system during a session in Raipur and affirmed that Rajasthan would follow Bihar’s approach in conducting a caste-based census. Ashok Gehlot stressed the importance of ensuring that participation in the census reflects the population distribution among different castes.

The caste-based survey in Bihar, conducted by the Nitish Kumar-led Mahagathbandhan government, released its findings on October 2. The Congress is a coalition partner in the Bihar government.

Ashok Gehlot underscored the significance of a caste-based census, stating that effective social security measures can only be developed when a comprehensive understanding of the caste-based demographic landscape is available. Such data allows for the creation of targeted schemes for various caste groups.

In a related development, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Congress General Secretary, announced a similar intent for Chhattisgarh, stating that if the Congress is re-elected in the state, they would conduct a caste census, akin to Bihar’s undertaking.

The caste survey in Bihar revealed that the combined population of the Other Backward Class (OBC) and Extremely Backward Class (EBC) constitutes 63 percent of the state’s population.
