Rajeev Chandrasekhar slams opposition over boycotting new Parliament inauguration

Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar called the opposition’s move to boycott the inauguration of the new Parliament building “petty politics” of the worst level. 

Chandrasekhar stated that because this is the first “non-colonial” Parliament built after independence, no MP with “common sense” would refuse to participate in the festival. 

Rajeev Chandrasekhar said, “This is the first time India has a Parliament that is not colonial.” It is the country’s Parliament and a shining symbol of our democracy. For parties to remain outside of that, which MP in their right mind would not take part in the celebration of the first parliament built after independence that was not built by the British?”

He expressed his disdain for the current state of politics, describing it as the lowest form of petty politics. According to him, it goes even further beyond what he would typically consider petty. He believes it stems from desperation, frustration, and a lack of substantial ideas. In response to the controversy surrounding ‘Sengol’ being placed in the Parliament, he accused the Congress party of intentionally removing their own history from school textbooks. 

He highlighted that the Congress government failed to acknowledge the ceremony where a Sengol was presented to Jawaharlal Nehru as a symbol of righteousness and just governance during the Tryst with Destiny speech. He claimed that this significant event has been deliberately erased from history.

He criticized the Chief Ministers of Opposition parties who chose not to participate in the NITI Aayog governing council meeting. He questioned their reasons for being reluctant to engage in discussions about the future of the country. He wondered if they were afraid that such discussions would reveal their lack of meaningful contributions.

In response to the claims of “Opposition Unity” following the Bharatiya Janata Party’s defeat in the Karnataka elections, the Union Minister dismissed it as insignificant. He emphasized that merely increasing the number of participants does not add any value if they lack a shared ideology or a common belief in India’s future. He stated that their gatherings and joint press conferences do not make them a viable alternative to PM Modi’s vision for India’s future; it is akin to adding zeros together, which ultimately results in zero.
