The Mughal Gardens at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi have been renamed “Amrit Udyan” by the Central government as this Saturday.
The Central Government changed the name of the Mughal Gardens to Amrit Udyan in keeping with the theme of the “Amrit Mahotsav” commemorating 75 years of India’s Independence.
“On the occasion of the celebrations of 75 years of Independence as ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’, the President of India has given a common name to the Rashtrapati Bhavan gardens as ‘Amrit Udyan’, Navika Gupta, Deputy Press Secretary to President told news agency ANI.
The government had last year renamed Delhi’s iconic Rajpath as ‘Kartavya Path’. The renaming of the stretch and other institutions is in line with the Centre’s effort to remove any trace of colonial mindset, it has maintained.
Every year, the Mughal Gardens are typically accessible to the general public for one month. Visitors can witness the Mughal Gardens, which are made up of the Rectangular, Long, and Circular Gardens, the Herbal Garden, Musical Garden, and the Spiritual Garden. Sir Edward Lutyen, who is credited with creating the Lutyen Zone in the nation’s capital, constructed the garden.
