Ravi Shankar Prasad: “INDIA alliance formed to oppose, finish off Sanatan Dharma”

In the midst of a controversy surrounding Tamil Nadu Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin’s statements, BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad stated on Tuesday that the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) was created with the intention to “oppose” and “undermine” the Sanatan Dharma. Speaking at a press conference held at the party’s headquarters in the national capital, the BJP leader alleged that the Opposition alliance was engaging in divisive politics for electoral gains.

“…Their hidden agenda is to do vote bank politics by opposing Sanatana Dharma…I ask the Congress party and this alliance – Do they have the right to criticize deities of some other faith? Do they have the courage? Can they do it?… They stay silent on other religions but openly oppose Sanatana,” Prasad said.

Responding to comments made by Tamil Nadu Education Minister Ponmudy regarding Sanatana Dharma during a recent DMK event, a BJP representative countered by stating, “DMK Education Minister Ponmudy’s statement has brought their true intentions to light. There’s an English saying, ‘The cat is out of the bag.’ It’s now clear what they had in mind.

The INDIA alliance was established with the purpose of opposing and undermining Sanatana Dharma…” The BJP leader highlighted that these comments by the DMK Education Minister were made during the same event that saw Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin’s son drawing comparisons between Sanatana Dharma and diseases like dengue and malaria, while another DMK leader, A Raja, referred to it as “worse than AIDS.”

The BJP leader also slammed Congress leader Sonia Gandhi and opposition leaders for opposing Triple Talaq. “They also opposed Triple Talaq,” he said.
“Sonia ji, How far will you go for the sake of votes and how long?” asked Prasad.

Earlier this month, during a Council of Ministers meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he addressed the controversy surrounding Udhayanidhi’s statements. According to sources, he encouraged his ministers to actively counter any attacks on Sanatan Dharma and advised them to respond with factual information to challenge the Opposition’s narrative.

Previously, the Trichy police took action against Amit Malviya, the head of BJP’s IT cell, for allegedly spreading false information and distorting Udhayanidhi’s remarks.

This move was seen as a response to the filing of complaints against Udhayanidhi and Congress leader Priyank Kharge for allegedly causing offense to religious sentiments. An FIR was lodged following a complaint by two advocates in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh.
