India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday, July 11 remarked that Himachal Pradesh, which has been heavily impacted by rain for the past several days, doesn’t seem to be receiving any immediate relief. They issued “red” and “orange” alerts for several of the hill state’s districts for the next 24 hours.
On Monday, July 10, senior IMD scientist Sandeep Kumar Sharma announced that a red alert has been issued for the next 24 hours for Solan, Shimla, Sirmaur, Kullu, Mandi, Kinnaur, and Lahaul. Additionally, Una, Hamirpur, Kangra, and Chamba have been issued an orange alert. Mandi, Kinnaur, and Lahaul-Spiti have also received a flash flood warning for the next 24 hours.
According to the sources, Himachal Pradesh’s floodwaters washed down 3 hotels in Manali and a significant portion of the road washed away, submerging the homes In Kotkhai.
More than 120 highways are blocked, and 484 water supply projects have been impacted in the Shimla district.
Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jairam Thakur on Monday, July 10 expressed his concern over the lives lost and the public infrastructure being damaged as the heavy rains continue to leash the state.
Thakur also added, “We never saw such a situation in the past several years. I am very concerned about the prevailing situation in the state.
Several big and small rivers are in spate and if the situation persists over the next few days, there could be further damage.”
A landslide on Saturday in Kasauli’s Dochi village in the Solan damaged a section of the road and a house that was still being built. The incessant rain has severely damaged properties in the state. For the upcoming 24 to 48 hours, seven districts in Himachal Pradesh are under a “red” warning.
Heavy rainfall has severely affected the state and created havoc as instances of landslides, power cuts, traffic stops, and bridges being damaged are seen. Over the last 48 hours, 20 people in the state have died as a result of nature’s wrath. Parts of the state also saw tourists being left stranded. The damage to the infrastructure is believed to have cost between Rs 3,000 crore and Rs 4,000 crore.
Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the chief minister of Himachal Pradesh, claimed on Monday, July 10 that the state has not experienced such heavy rainfall in the previous 50 years.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his conversation with the Himachal Pradesh chief minister assured him of the complete support of the federal government.
