RJD MP Manoj Jha Calls for Peace and Harmony in Manipur After Visiting the Violence-Hit State

Following a two-day visit to violence-hit Manipur, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Manoj Jha, as part of a 21-member delegation from the grand Opposition alliance, urged the Kuki and Meitei communities to cooperate in restoring peace and harmony in the state. The region has been witnessing ethnic strife and violence since May 3, prompting the delegation’s visit to address the situation.

“We want peace to be restored in Manipur. Peace with justice. Our only demand is that both communities should live in harmony. The situation in Manipur is dangerous. Be it Madhya Pradesh or Manipur, there is no alternative to peace anywhere,” stated Jha during his interaction with the media upon returning to Delhi.

The delegation includes prominent leaders from various parties, including Congress, JDU, Trinamool Congress, DMK, CPI, CPI(M), RJD, SP, JMM, NCP, AAP, Shiv Sena (UBT), VCK, and RLD. Their visit to Manipur comes as a significant step towards addressing the ongoing unrest and finding solutions for lasting peace in the region.

In response to queries about the possibility of an all-party delegation visiting the state, Jha noted that discussions have already taken place in Parliament, indicating the likelihood of such a visit to Manipur. The involvement of multiple parties in the delegation emphasizes the seriousness of the situation and the collective responsibility to find a resolution.

During their visit, the Opposition leaders met Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhawan and presented a memorandum to her, outlining the critical issues affecting the state and the urgent need for peace and stability. The Governor and the delegation engaged in productive discussions, with both parties suggesting the formation of a multi-party delegation to address the ongoing violence and unrest in Manipur. This collaborative approach aims to bring together representatives from different political backgrounds to collectively work towards finding a lasting solution.

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, who was part of the visiting delegation, also emphasized the significance of the Prime Minister’s presence in the northeastern state. He urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the NDA alliance to visit Manipur to witness the ground reality and address the concerns of the people. Such a visit from the nation’s top leadership can demonstrate their commitment to resolving the crisis and provide reassurance to the affected communities.
