Delhi: RPF Rescues Over 800 Children & Thwarts Traffickers

According to an official statement from the Ministry of Railways, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) under the ‘Nanhe Faristey’ mission, achieved the successful rescue of 895 children, consisting of 573 boys and 322 girls, who were in need of care and protection. These young souls were subsequently reunited with the relevant authorities and, eventually, with their families, representing a crucial step in reuniting children separated from their loved ones for various reasons.

The battle against human trafficking has consistently remained a top priority for railway authorities. In September 2023, Anti-Human Trafficking Units (AHTUs) stationed at the post level (Thana level) throughout the Indian Railways played a pivotal role in rescuing 29 individuals from the clutches of traffickers, leading to the apprehension of 14 traffickers.

In addition, the press release emphasized the commendable rescue of 265 passengers facing imminent danger on railway platforms and tracks. This remarkable feat was accomplished under ‘Operation Jeevan Raksha,’ an initiative designed to ensure the safety of passengers in distress.

With a focus on enhancing the security and well-being of female passengers, the RPF introduced “Meri Saheli,” a specialized effort aimed at safeguarding women passengers, especially those traveling alone or considered vulnerable to criminal activities. In September 2023, 231 ‘Meri Saheli’ teams attended to 13,071 trains, offering security assurance to an impressive 421,198 lady passengers. Furthermore, the RPF took action against 6,033 individuals found traveling in coaches designated for women.

In the ongoing battle against ticket touting, the RPF, as part of ‘Operation Uplabdh,’ apprehended 405 touts in September 2023 and seized future tickets with a combined value of Rs 36.43 lakhs.

Operation “NARCOS” left a significant impact, leading to the arrest of 70 individuals and the confiscation of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) valued at a staggering Rs 2.65 crores. Those apprehended were promptly handed over to the relevant authorities for further legal action.

In response to security-related grievances from distressed passengers, the RPF established an Emergency Response Support System through the Rail Madad Portal and the integrated helpline number 139 (linked with Emergency Response Support System No. 112). In September 2023, the RPF diligently received and resolved over 28,000 complaints, taking swift and necessary actions to address each one.
