Union Minister Smriti Irani has disclosed that the Ministry of Women and Child Development has allocated Rs 272 crore from the Nirbhaya Fund for residential accommodations for girls and working women pursuing higher education at Delhi University. This announcement was made during the “Vikas Bharat Ambassador-Nari Shakti Conclave” held at Delhi University on March 7.
Smriti Irani wrote on X, “The @MinistryWCD has sanctioned Rs. 272 crore for Residential Accommodation for girls and working women pursuing higher education at Delhi University under the Nirbhaya Fund. Aligned with PM @NarendraModi ji’s vision of Viksit Bharat, this initiative empowers working women and girls pursuing higher education. This project will provide 1000 beds with enhanced security, CCTV surveillance and gender-sensitive amenities.”
The University of Delhi stated, “In response to the requests from female students during the conclave, Union Cabinet Minister Smriti Zubin Irani allocated funds from the Nirbhaya Fund for women’s hostels at DU.”
However, she announced this allocation during her participation in the Vikas Bharat Ambassador-Nari Shakti Conclave at Delhi University North Campus.
