Sam Pitroda Stands Firm On His Controversial Inheritance Tax & Diverse India Remarks At India News Manch Event

Sam Pitroda, the overseas Congress Chairman, reiterated his controversial remarks during a conversation at the India Manch Event. When asked if he still stands by his statements, he responded with a firm “yes.”

Clarification on Inheritance Tax Remarks

Pitroda sought to clear the air regarding his previous comments on inheritance tax. He clarified, “I never said there should be an inheritance tax in India. All I said is there is inheritance in America.” He suggested that India could take inspiration from American policy to raise resources for equitable wealth distribution. He emphasized that his statement was merely an example and not an advocacy for inheritance tax in India.

Accusations Against Prime Minister Modi

Pitroda accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of politicizing his comments. He stated, “When the prime minister decides to ask all his ministers to comment, to me, it’s a troll.” He maintained that his remarks were taken out of context and used for political gain.

Controversial Remarks on Diversity in India

Pitroda addressed his remarks on the diverse appearances of people in different regions of India, which had sparked controversy. He had previously noted that North-Eastern people look like Chinese and South Indian people look like Africans. Defending his comment, he said, “I did not know people would take the South African comparison as bad, because for me it is not bad. I take great pride in it.” He apologized if anyone was hurt by his remarks, clarifying that his intention was not to offend anyone.

Emphasis on Misinterpretation

Pitroda highlighted how Prime Minister Modi chose to focus on his comments ten days later and accused him of trolling. He emphasized that his statements were misinterpreted and used to create political controversy.

In summary, Sam Pitroda stood by his previous remarks, clarified his stance on inheritance tax, and defended his comments on India’s diversity while accusing Prime Minister Modi of politicizing his statements.
