The Supreme Court on Friday, requested information from the registrar of the Allahabad High Court on the lawsuits being heard in the court over the Krishna Janambhoomi property issue in Mathura.
The Supreme Court has requested information about lawsuits pertaining to the dispute over the Krishna Janambhoomi property in Mathura from the registrar of the Allahabad High Court.
During the hearing, the top court noted that multiple suits had been filed in the matter.
Committee of Management Trust Shahi Masjid Idgah moved the Supreme Court challenging Allahabad High Court order, which transferred to itself all the petitions relating to Mathura’s Krishna Janambhoomi land dispute from Mathura district court.
Transfer application of Krishna Janambhoomi from district court approved
The Committee of Management Trust Shahi Masjid Idgah appealed the High Court’s decision to transfer all petitions regarding the issue from Mathura district court, and the top court was currently considering its argument. Even though the High Court had stopped the proceedings, the Transfer Application was approved.
According to the appeal, the transfer decision eliminates two appellate processes and transfers lawsuits that are not subject to transfer petitions. Nine complaints regarding Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi and Shahi Idgah Masjid have been filed in the Mathura court, including one requesting ownership of 13.37 acres of land and the demolition of the mosque that was reportedly constructed on the grounds of the temple in 1669-70 by Aurangzeb.
The lawsuit was only filed on May 26, 2022, and the proceedings therein were subsequently stayed by a Coordinate Bench of the High Court of Judicature at Allahabad via Order dated August 3, 2022, which remained in effect until May 1, 2023.

A lawsuit was launched by Lucknow resident Ranjana Agnihotri seeking ownership of 13.37 acres of land of Krishna janambhoomi.
Agnihotri sought the demolition of the Shahi Idgah mosque constructed in Krishna Janmabhoomi as part of her legal action.
A mosque allegedly constructed in 1669–1670 on the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb’s instructions within the 13.37-acre grounds of the Katra Keshav Dev temple, close to the birthplace of Lord Krishna, was the subject of a lawsuit filed in the Mathura court.
