‘Why Congress hates Indian traditions, culture so much?’: Amit Shah on Sengol controversy

The Union Home Minister also responded to the 'Bogus' jibe about history of Sengol calling Congress to reflect on their behavior.

‘Why Congress hates Indian traditions, culture so much?’: Amit Shah on Sengol controversy

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, aiming his arrows at the grand old party, claimed that the ‘Sengol’ gifted to previous Prime Minister Pandit Nehru had been deported to a museum as a “walking stick.”

Home Minister Amit Shah questioned and asked why Congress despises Indian customs and culture in a series of tweets.

“Why does the Congress party hate Indian traditions and culture so much? A sacred Sengol was given to Pandit Nehru by a holy Saivite Mutt from Tamil Nadu to symbolize India’s freedom but it was banished to a museum as a ‘walking stick’,” Shah tweeted.

He went on to say that Congress should deliberate on its actions because the Thiruvaduthurai Adheenam, a revered Saivite Mutt, spoke about the Sengol’s relevance during India’s independence.

Sengol an important relic, Congress declaring Adheenam’s history ‘Bogus’ says Amit Shah

“Now, Congress has heaped another shameful insult. The Thiruvaduthurai Adheenam, a holy Saivite Mutt, itself spoke about the importance of the Sengol at the time of India’s freedom. Congress is calling Adheenam’s history BOGUS! Congress needs to reflect on their behavior,” Shah said in a Tweet.

On the other hand,  Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said that there is no written evidence of Mountbatten, Rajaji, or Nehru identifying the scepter as a symbol of the transfer of British power to India.

In a scathing Tweet put out by him, Jairam said, “All claims to this effect are plain and simple — BOGUS. Wholly and completely manufactured in the minds of a few and dispersed into WhatsApp, and now to the drum-beaters in the media. Two of the finest Rajaji scholars with impeccable credentials have expressed surprise,”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has decided to make the Sengol the national symbol of the Amrit Kaal. The process will be repeated at the new Parliament building, with Adheenam (priests) vesting the PM with the Sengol.

PM Modi will put up the same Sengol from 1947 in the Lok Sabha, notably near the Speaker’s podium. It will be exhibited for all to see and will be used on special occasions.

JP Nadda responds to Congress, says dynasty-run parties boycotting Inauguration of New Parliament building.

In the meantime, JP Nadda, National President of the BJP, stated, “What connects most parties which are boycotting the inauguration of the new Parliament building?”

Nadda went on to say, “The answer is simple- they are dynasty-run political parties, whose monarchic methods are at loggerheads with the principles of republicanism and democracy in our Constitution. Those parties which are boycotting the Parliament’s inauguration lack any commitment to democracy because their sole aim is to perpetuate a select group of dynasties.”

“These dynastic parties, particularly the Congress and the Nehru-Gandhi dynasty, are unable to digest the simple fact that the people of India have placed their faith in a man hailing from a humble background. Elitist mindsets of dynasts are preventing them from logical thinking,” his tweet read.

“The people of India are seeing how these parties are putting politics above the nation. These parties will be punished yet again by the people for their partisan politics!,” his tweet read.

This follows the decision of at least 21 opposition parties to boycott the Prime Minister’s choice to preside over the inauguration ceremony instead of President Droupadi Murmu.

The opposition claimed that the building’s opening without President Droupadi Murmu would be “insults the high office of the President, and violates the letter and spirit of the Constitution”.

On May 28, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will dedicate the new Parliament building to the country.
