Seven individuals, including a police constable and his wife, lost their lives in separate road accidents on the Delhi-Dehradun national highway in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar over the past 24 hours, authorities reported on Tuesday.
In one tragic incident, Constable Sudhir Kumar, aged 28, and his wife Sonia, aged 26, were killed when a truck collided with their motorcycle on Tuesday. The impact caused part of the truck to catch fire, trapping the couple beneath the vehicle, according to the police.
A fire brigade was dispatched to the scene to extinguish the flames. Constable Kumar was stationed in Moradabad district, said Circle Officer (Nai Mandi) Rupali Rao.
The truck driver fled the scene, and the bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, police reported.
In a separate incident, Ishwar Dayal, 25, and Sandeep Verma, 28, died when a speeding unidentified vehicle struck their motorcycle near a Mahindra showroom in the Mansurpur police station area on Tuesday. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene, and the bodies have also been sent for post-mortem, stated Circle Officer Ramashish Yadav.
In a third incident, late Monday night, three men—Sorabh Pal, 26, Daksh Saini, 25, and Krishan, 23—were killed when a speeding truck hit their motorcycle near the Mansurpur distillery. The truck driver managed to escape, police said.
