Sunday morning witnessed a layer of shallow fog in various parts of northern India, as predicted by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), which forecasts light to moderate rain across Delhi, Haryana, and Chandigarh over the next two days. Delhi’s minimum temperature is expected to be around 9 degrees Celsius, with a maximum of 27 degrees Celsius, according to the IMD, indicating partly cloudy weather.
Visuals depicted light fog at Kartavya Path in the National Capital, while dense fog covered sections of Bhubaneswar. Rajpura city in Punjab’s Patiala district also reported dense fog, causing traffic congestion, as mentioned by Shivnath, a driver, who highlighted the challenges of driving in such conditions.
Amit Kumar, another driver en route to Basantpura village in Punjab from Haryana, expressed concerns about near-zero visibility due to fog, emphasizing the need for cautious driving.
Similar dense fog conditions were observed in West Bengal’s Hooghly district on Sunday morning. In Jammu and Kashmir, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Vijay Kumar Bidhuri responded to a three-day MeT alert for snowfall in the valley, expressing readiness for the anticipated snowfall and highlighting the administration’s preparedness.
According to the IMD’s two-day forecast, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi are expected to experience light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds. Additionally, hailstorms are likely at isolated locations in Haryana. Heavy rainfall is predicted in isolated areas of Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand on specific dates.
Meanwhile, the Air Quality Index in the National Capital stood at 262, categorized as ‘poor’.
