Sharad Pawar: Misuse of CBI and ED Against AAP Reflects BJP’s Desperation

Sharad Pawar's attack against BJP came following Sanjay Singh's arrest by ED marked the third high-profile arrest in the case, following that of former Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia.

Sharad Pawar: Misuse of CBI and ED Against AAP Reflects BJP’s Desperation

NCP Chief Sharad Pawar launched an attack on the BJP-led central government on Thursday, criticizing the arrest of AAP MP Sanjay Singh in connection with a liquor excise policy case. Pawar accused the BJP of utilizing agencies like the CBI and ED to target the opposition. He remarked, “I feel that when they can’t find anything against the opposition, they resort to misusing agencies like ED and CBI.”

Regarding Sanjay Singh’s arrest in the now-defunct liquor policy case, the ED took action on Wednesday. In response, leaders of the I.N.D.I.A bloc expressed strong reactions. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin joined the chorus, condemning the BJP-led central government for what he called their “vindictive politics without boundaries.”

He stated, “The Union BJP Government’s vindictive politics knows no bounds! Arresting AAP MP Sanjay Singh and raiding DMK MP Jagathrakshakan’s home are clear examples of their misuse of independent investigating agencies for political purposes against I.N.D.I.A bloc leaders.”

Rajya Sabha MP from Shiv Sena, Sanjay Raut, criticized the BJP, accusing them of using central agencies as political tools. Raut remarked, “The BJP is employing central agencies as political instruments. They can continue doing so until 2024, and we will continue to oppose it. In places where the BJP is not in power, these raids will persist.”

Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Anurag Thakur, took a dig at the Aam Aadmi Party, also targeting its leader, Arvind Kejriwal. Thakur remarked, “People to whom Kejriwal issued a certificate of honesty are in jail.” He alleged that Kejriwal could be the next target, saying, “People are laughing at Arvind Kejriwal. They can see the tension on his face. The Deputy CM is in jail, the Health Minister is in jail, they are people who came to the forefront by raising the slogans of India Against Corruption but are now involved in corruption.”

Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister and AAP Supremo Arvind Kejriwal condemned Sanjay Singh’s arrest, claiming that it reflected the BJP’s nervousness ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. Kejriwal stated, “The arrest of Sanjay Singh is completely illegal. This shows Modi ji’s nervousness. They will arrest many more opposition leaders until the elections.”

Sanjay Singh’s arrest marked the third high-profile arrest in the case, following that of former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. The arrest came shortly after the ED conducted raids at Singh’s residence in connection with the case.
