Sharad Pawar, the leader of the Nationalist Congress Party, has called the floor leaders of the opposition parties in the Rajya Sabha to a meeting on Thursday to discuss the Rural Electronic Voting Machine (EVM). Tomorrow at 6 p.m., the meeting will be conducted at Pawar’s house. The Nationalist Congress Party head proposed convening a conference of all political parties that have questions about the efficiency of the Rural Electronic Voting Machine in a letter to all opposition leaders (EVM).
This comes after the Chief Election Commissioner committed to addressing concerns made by civil society activists and political parties.
Pawar added that the conference was held to promote free and fair elections and to hear the perspectives of top IT professionals and cryptographers. The CCE Report raises some very significant issues. The paper incorporates comments from notable Information Technology academics, cryptographers, and retired government officials.
In May 2022, the civil society sent a letter to ECI, followed by a two-week reminder (Annexure 3). ECI didn’t even acknowledge their letter. Even the average person is beginning to have reservations about the prospect of manipulating EVMs.
