Sharad Pawar Unveils NCP’s New Symbol at Raigad Fort in Maharashtra

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Sharad Pawar introduced his party’s latest symbol, the ‘man blowing turha’, during a significant event at Chhatrapati Shivaji’s Raigad Fort on Saturday. The unveiling saw Pawar being carried on a palanquin up to the historic fort for the occasion.

The Election Commission of India recently assigned the new symbol of ‘man blowing turha’ to the NCP. This decision came after the commission reassigned the party’s original name (NCP) and its ‘clock’ symbol to the faction led by Ajit Pawar.

The symbol of Sharad Pawar’s new party depicts a man blowing a long, curved, trumpet-like instrument in the shape of a reverse ‘C’, embellished with a thread or string. Known as “turha”, “turhi”, “turahi”, or “turturi”, this instrument varies slightly in form across different regions in Maharashtra.

Following the Election Commission’s announcement, the Nationalist Congress Party-Sharad Chandra Pawar shared its enthusiasm on social media platforms, emphasizing that the new symbol, inspired by Maharashtra’s iconic figures, is poised to challenge the central government’s authority.

“In Maharashtra’s history, the valor of Chhatrapati Shiv Rai, symbolized by the Trumpet, which resonated in the ears of the Delhi throne, is a moment of pride for the ‘Nationalist Congress Party- Sharad Chandra Pawar’ today. With the progressive ideologies of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the icon of Maharashtra, Phule, Shahu, Ambedkar, and the revered ‘Tutari’, we are prepared to sound the trumpet once again to challenge the authority of Delhi,” the NCP-Sharadchandra Pawar stated.

Speaking about the symbolic significance, party leader Jitendra Awhad expressed on Friday that this “turha” would be sounded during the upcoming elections, symbolizing their determination to emerge victorious in the battle of ideas.

“This is a positive development for us. We appreciate the Election Commission’s decision. By assigning the ‘trumpet’ symbol, it has sent a message to Sharad Pawar Saheb and his supporters to prepare for the battle and emerge victorious,” Ahwad remarked, highlighting the party’s readiness for the upcoming political challenges.
