Shiv Sena MP Srikant Eknath Shinde Calls For Online Gaming Ban At Lok Sabha Session

Leader of Shiv Sena, Shrikant Eknath Shinde has recently called for a ban on online gaming in India, citing significant risks, particularly regarding players’ mental health.

He highlighted that addiction to these games, including platforms like Junglee Rummy, has driven some individuals to suicide due to escalating debts.

Taking to X, Shinde said ‘In today’s Lok Sabha session, I raised concerns about online gaming platforms and called for a detailed examination of the potential ban on Junglee Rummy and comparable platforms.’

Meanwhile, during the recent Budget Session of Parliament, Shinde urged a thorough investigation into the potential ban of Junglee Rummy and similar online gaming platforms.

Involve Financial Stakes

The Shiv Sena leader also highlighted the growing addiction to online games that involve financial stakes. Thus, he stressed the urgent need for a ban. Additionally, he underscored the importance of educating students in schools and colleges about the dangers of such addiction.

‘The increasing addiction to online gaming in India, especially to games like Junglee Rummy, demands a thorough review. These games pose serious dangers, particularly to players’ mental health ‘said the Shiv Sena MP.

He further highlighted that online gaming affects not only the youth, it affects various other segments of society. He cited statistics indicating that the online gaming market in India is expected to reach $30 billion by 2025, with a significant portion attributed to games like Junglee Rummy.

‘These games involve financial stakes, and their addictive nature is having severe consequences on many lives ‘ he added.

Moreover, he also stated that these games cause personal & financial crisis. Due to this addiction, many individuals have taken their lives.

He also noted that players often attempt to recover their losses by investing more money, worsening their financial situation.

Later, concluding his speech, he asserted that people should be educated about the dangers of online gaming addiction. In addition, he also demanded strict regulations to enforce order & control in this sector.
