In a shocking incident that has sparked widespread outrage, Arunachal Pradesh Police have registered a case against renowned musician Kon Waii Son for killing a chicken and drinking its blood during a live performance in Itanagar. The incident, which has raised serious concerns about animal cruelty, occurred during a stage show and was captured on video, triggering a storm of controversy online.
Kon Waii Son, a well-known songwriter, composer, and musician from Seppa in Arunachal Pradesh’s East Kameng district, allegedly slit the throat of a live chicken and drank its blood while performing on stage. The disturbing act was met with immediate backlash from animal rights groups and the public, who condemned the act as both barbaric and senseless.
The police registered an FIR under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023 and The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PCA) Act, 1960 after receiving a formal complaint from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India, a global animal protection organization. PETA India has called for a psychiatric evaluation and counseling for Son, as animal abuse often points to deep psychological issues. The organization emphasized the need for stricter laws to prevent such cruelty.
The video of the incident, which quickly went viral on social media, has ignited a larger debate on the ethics of animal sacrifice in entertainment and cultural performances. PETA India has also pushed for amendments to the PCA Act, advocating for harsher penalties for those found guilty of animal cruelty.
This incident is a reminder of the importance of adhering to animal welfare laws and promoting ethical practices, especially in public performances. Authorities are continuing to investigate the matter, and further legal actions may follow as public scrutiny intensifies.
