Sinking Joshimath: Admin sounds alert, asks residents to move to relief centres

Joshimath has been classified a ‘sinking zone’ due to ongoing soil subsidence, with numerous buildings and roads developing cracks in recent days, forcing inhabitants outside and causing dread.

Taking stock of the situation in the renowned pilgrimage site, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed that all existing development activities in the vicinity be monitored, while prompt aid and rescue of locals impacted by the Joshimath landslide and subsidence be provided.

He has also given all feasible assistance to the afflicted residents and has accelerated all development initiatives in the area.

Meanwhile, Chamoli District Magistrate (DM) Himanshu Khurana visited door to door in the affected region to examine the amount of damage, advising locals to transfer to relief centres if their dwellings had developed cracks.
