BJP and JJP Alliance in Haryana Faces Strain, Cabinet Reshuffle Likely Today

The political landscape in Haryana is witnessing significant developments as the alliance between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) faces strain over seat-sharing for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Deputy CM Dushyant Chautala held separate meetings with their respective MLAs, indicating possible changes in the state government.

The deadlock in seat-sharing talks revolves around the JJP’s demand for two out of the ten constituencies in Haryana. The JJP and BJP had formed a post-poll alliance in Haryana after the 2019 Assembly polls when the BJP fell short of a majority.

To address the ongoing issues, Chief Minister Khattar held a meeting with Independent MLAs, exploring the possibility of their support in case the JJP is excluded from the Cabinet. Sources suggest a complete Cabinet reshuffle might be on the horizon, with the BJP opting for Independent MLAs’ support over the JJP.

Deputy CM Dushyant Chautala’s meeting with BJP President J.P. Nadda in New Delhi reportedly conveyed that the JJP would not be allocated any Lok Sabha seats. The JJP has been vying for the Hisar and Bhiwani-Mahendragarh constituencies, but the BJP is inclined to contest all ten seats in Haryana.

The JJP MLAs, led by Dushyant Chautala, convened in New Delhi to strategize and formulate a response to the evolving situation. The party is scheduled to hold a meeting in Hisar on March 13 to demonstrate its strength.

The strained alliance is anticipated to lead to major changes in the Haryana government, possibly resulting in a Cabinet reshuffle excluding JJP representatives.
