Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], October 15: Ahead of the upcoming Test series against New Zealand, which kicks off on Wednesday, India’s Test and ODI captain, Rohit Sharma, took time to share his thoughts on young batter Yashasvi Jaiswal. The captain expressed genuine admiration for Jaiswal’s rapid adjustment to international cricket and highlighted the immense potential he sees in the young talent.
Rohit noted, “I’m not surprised by how Yashasvi has adapted to international cricket. He has real talent and the game to play in all sorts of conditions. Despite being very young, he has shown the capability to manage himself well in various situations. He possesses all the ingredients necessary for success at this level.” This statement underscores not only Jaiswal’s skills but also his mental toughness, which is essential for thriving in competitive environments.
As Rohit discussed Jaiswal’s promising future, he emphasized the importance of how the young player navigates his career in the coming years. “It’s crucial how he manages himself in the next couple of years. He can do wonders for the team. Having played a lot of domestic and Under-19 cricket, where he has succeeded, it’s clear why he’s now playing for India. In his short career, he has already shown what he is capable of, and he has done exceptionally well,” Rohit remarked. This reflects a broader understanding of the journey young players must undertake, and it highlights the need for guidance and experience as they progress.
Rohit also pointed out the strategic advantage of having a left-handed batter like Jaiswal in the squad. “Being a left-hander is advantageous for the team. He’s an aggressor and always eager to learn the game and improve his batsmanship,” he explained. Rohit appreciated Jaiswal’s mindset, stating, “The mindset he has shown, always wanting to learn, always striving to improve and not being content with his achievements is remarkable. This attitude is a great start for him, and we have found a great player in Yashasvi.” Such qualities are crucial in a team sport where adaptability and continuous improvement can make a significant difference.
Looking ahead, Sharma expressed optimism for Jaiswal’s continued success on the international stage. “Hopefully, he can continue to do what he has done in the last year or so and maintain his impressive form,” he said. Rohit’s faith in Jaiswal’s abilities and work ethic indicates that the young batter has a promising future with the national team.
As the Test series against New Zealand approaches, all eyes will be on Jaiswal to see if he can translate his potential into performance, further solidifying his place in the Indian cricket landscape. With the backing of seasoned players like Rohit Sharma, Jaiswal is poised to make a significant impact in the upcoming matches and beyond.
