“STOP Viksit Bharat Messages Immediately”: EC Orders IT Ministry

The Election Commission of India in an immediate effect issued instruction to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to cease sending ‘Viksit Bharat‘ messages via WhatsApp immediately.

The commission received complaints that these messages are still being delivered despite the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) being in force.

While the notice does not mention any action on messages already sent during the MCC period, the issue revolves around the mass circulation of messages on WhatsApp from ‘Viksit Bharat Sampark,’ featuring a letter from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. These messages highlight the government’s achievements over the past decade, with Modi seeking feedback from the public on these accomplishments.
