On Wednesday, the Supreme Court agreed to consider the plea filed by the Delhi Government requesting the release of funds for the Delhi Jal Board on April 1. Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing the Delhi Government, brought up the matter’s urgency before a bench led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud.
Singhvi informed the court that the Jal Board Funds have not been disbursed and are set to expire on March 31. The Supreme Court assured that it will address the issue on April 1, emphasizing that any developments occurring between the present date and the hearing can be addressed by the court.
In November 2023, Delhi Minister Atishi wrote to Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, urging for the suspension and disciplinary action against the Finance Secretary. This action was prompted by concerns that the withholding of funds for the Delhi Jal Board could potentially lead to a public health crisis.
