In the midst of ongoing unrest in Sandeshkhali, West Bengal, a new controversy has emerged involving BJP’s LoP Suvendu Adhikari allegedly making a ‘Khalistani’ remark towards a Sikh IPS officer. Adhikari has responded to these allegations by challenging the ADG (South Bengal) to prove the accusation within 24 hours or face consequences.
“BJP LoP Suvendu Adhikari challenges ADG (South Bengal) to substantiate the claim of a slur directed at a Sikh police officer within 24 hours or face repercussions. @WBPolice, Mamata Banerjee’s main defense, is faltering. They should now retreat to their barracks,” stated BJP’s IT cell chief Amit Malviya in a post on X, along with a video of Adhikari contesting the West Bengal police’s assertions.
A Sikh IPS officer was deployed at Dhamakhali to prevent senior West Bengal BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari from visiting the turbulent Sandeshkhali area in North 24 Parganas district. Adhikari was accompanied by BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul, who claimed that the police officer was neglecting his duties.
Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee criticized the BJP, alleging that the party assumes every turban-wearing individual to be a “Khalistani.”
“Today, the BJP’s divisive politics has crossed constitutional boundaries. According to @BJP4India, anyone wearing a turban is a Khalistani,” stated the Chief Minister in a post on ‘X,’ attaching a video of the verbal altercation where the police officer firmly objected to being labeled “Khalistani” for wearing a turban.
Banerjee condemned the incident, stating, “I strongly condemn this bold attempt to tarnish the reputation of our Sikh brothers and sisters, who are esteemed for their sacrifices and unwavering commitment to our nation. We are steadfast in safeguarding Bengal’s social harmony and will take strict legal measures to prevent any disruptions.”
