Syria: MoS Muraleedharan pays homage to Mahatma Gandhi in Damascus

V Muraleedharan, Minister of State (MoS) for External Affairs, honored Mahatma Gandhi today in Damascus. The MoS is currently in Syria for a two-day trip. “Began the day in Damascus, Syria, by paying tribute to Mahatma Gandhi Ji at the premises of @eoidamascus,” Mos Murleedharan tweeted today.

On Wednesday, he paid a visit to His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II, the Syriac Patriarch of Antioch and the entire East. After visiting the Patriarch, Muraleedharan said, “Remembered my old connection with his Holiness. He reaffirmed his love for Kerala and hoped for more harmony within the Syrian Orthodox Church.
In Damascus, V Muraleedharan also met with the minister of higher education and spoke with Syrian students who had been chosen for an Indian scholarship. He was touched by the student’s enthusiasm and desire to study in India. Since August 2016, this will be India’s first ministerial-level trip to Syria. Throughout the Syrian conflict, the Indian Embassy in Syria has remained open. Both nations have long-standing friendly relations based on enduring inter-human connections.
Mos Murleedharan has been in Syria since July 12 and will return on Thursday. This will be India’s first ministerial-level visit to Syria since August 2016, and v. Murleedharan’s first visit to the country, according to an earlier official release from the ministry of external affairs.
Syria and India have long had friendly relations based on deep-seated people-to-people relationships. Throughout the Syrian turmoil, India’s embassy has remained open. Many visitors, businesses, and patients visit India. This visit is expected to bolster the two countries’ longstanding relationship.
