Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has announced financial assistance for the victims of a tragic bus accident in Marapalam, Tamil Nadu. Eight people lost their lives in the accident, with several others suffering serious injuries when the tourist bus they were travelling in plunged into a gorge.

Chief Minister Stalin has pledged an ex-gratia payment of Rs two lakh to the families of the deceased. Additionally, Rs 1 lakh will be provided as financial aid to those who sustained severe injuries, and Rs 50,000 will go to those with less severe injuries.

Nilgiris District Collector Aruna shared details of the incident, stating that the bus was carrying 60 passengers. She confirmed that all passengers had been rescued, with eight individuals tragically losing their lives. The remaining survivors are currently receiving medical treatment. Aruna also praised the government’s swift response in providing relief measures.

Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi expressed his condolences, saying, “Deeply saddened by the loss of lives in a bus accident near Coonoor, Nilgiris. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. May the injured recover at the earliest.”

The accident occurred while the bus was en route from Ooty to Mettupalayam in the Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu. The injured passengers were promptly transported to the Coonoor government hospital for medical attention.
