K Selvaperunthagai, the Tamil Nadu Congress President, met with Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) chief Kamal Haasan on Tuesday.
Addressing the media, K Selvaperunthagai stated, “We had a meeting with Makkal Needhi Maiam chief Kamal Haasan today at his party office. We conveyed to him Rahul Gandhi’s desire for his support to the INDIA alliance and participation in the election campaign. Rahul Gandhi shares a good rapport with Kamal Haasan, and they will meet when Rahul Gandhi visits Tamil Nadu for the election campaign.”
MNM, founded by actor-politician Kamal Haasan, has opted not to contest in the upcoming Lok Sabha (LS) election but to extend support to the DMK, a prominent political entity in Tamil Nadu.
Kamal Haasan has pledged his unwavering support and campaign efforts for the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
However, the DMK has offered MNM one seat for the 2025 Rajya Sabha polls in exchange for campaigning for the party.
“We are not contesting in this election, but we will provide full cooperation to this alliance. We have come together not just for positions but for the betterment of the nation,” Kamal Haasan affirmed.
Actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan ventured into politics in 2018 by establishing his own party, Makkal Needhi Maiam.
