Two Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) workers were detained on Wednesday for allegedly harassing a Chennai police policeman at a DMK public meeting.
Praveen and Ekkambaram, the accused, were charged under sections 353,354 IPC r/w 4 of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act, 1998. The lady constable filed a report at the Valasaravakkam Police Station on Sunday in this respect.
The lady policeman stated in her complaint that she was harassed during the event by two DMK youth wing members named as Praveen and Ekambaram. When the cops attempted to arrest the two, they were prevented by DMK members.
Meanwhile, the DMK Youth Wing suspended Praveen and Ekkambaram for anti-party acts.
However, the constable dropped her complaint on Tuesday.
On December 31, two DMK workers reportedly harassed a female police officer while she was on duty during the party’s public meeting in Virugambakkam.
Several key DMK politicians, including MP Kanimozhi, Health Minister M.Subramaniam, and MLA Prabhakar Raja, were present at the alleged incident meeting. The ceremony was held to commemorate the 100th birthday of former party General Secretary K Anbazhagan.
