Telangana Tunnel Collapse: PM Modi Assures NDRF Assistance For Trapped Workers

A section of the roof collapsed inside the under-construction Srisailam Left Bank Canal tunnel in Telangana, leaving workers feared trapped.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured full support from the Central government in the ongoing rescue efforts for eight workers trapped inside the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel in Telangana. The tunnel, located near Domalapenta in Nagarkurnool district, collapsed following a roof cave-in on Saturday, leaving the workers stranded.

PM Modi spoke to Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to assess the situation and offered assistance from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to expedite rescue operations. The Prime Minister assured the Chief Minister that the Central government is ready to extend all necessary support to ensure the safe rescue of the trapped workers.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy briefed PM Modi about the incident and the rescue measures underway. The state government has deployed Ministers N Uttam Kumar Reddy and Jupally Krishna Rao to oversee the rescue efforts at the accident site. Additionally, the District Collector, Superintendent of Police, and senior irrigation officials are closely monitoring the situation.

Presence Of SDRF And NDRF Teams

According to Telangana CMO sources, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and NDRF teams have been mobilized and are expected to reach the site shortly. The Chief Minister has instructed all departments to remain alert and take necessary precautions while conducting rescue operations. He has also ordered that the situation be updated to him regularly.

The incident occurred under the Eegalapenta police station limits while approximately 50 workers were engaged in tunnel work. Several workers managed to escape immediately after the collapse, but eight remain trapped inside. Authorities are making all efforts to reach them as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, CM Revanth Reddy has directed officials to ensure the best possible medical treatment for the injured and assured the affected families that the state government will provide all necessary support. Rescue operations are ongoing, with authorities working against time to safely evacuate the trapped workers.
