Trinamool Congress leader Jawhar Sircar announced on Sunday that he would resign from the Rajya Sabha in response to the recent rape and murder of a doctor in Kolkata. Sircar also sent a letter to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, urging her to “do something” to address the situation in the state.
Speaking to CNN-News18, Sircar stated that he plans to travel to Delhi to formally submit his resignation to Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar.
In his letter, Sircar expressed disappointment, writing, “I thought you would interfere in the ongoing movement in the old Mamata style, but I did not see it.”
