Amid the chaos in West Bengal’s Sandeshkhali, the Trinamool Congress MP Mimi Chakraborty known to be an actor as well has announced her resignation from her position today (Feb 15). She reasoned her resignation as dissatisfaction with the local party leadership in her constituency. Mimi Chakraborty secured victory in the Jadavpur seat during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Yet, this action does not constitute her official resignation since she has not submitted her resignation to the Lok Sabha Speaker. Mimi addressing the media said, “Today, I met our party supremo. I had submitted my resignation to her on February 13. I have understood in all these years that politics is not my cup of tea.”
When questioned about why she submitted her resignation to Mamata Banerjee instead of directly to the Lok Sabha Speaker as per protocol, Chakraborty explained, “Once I receive approval from the TMC, I will forward it to the Speaker.”
Regarding whether the local leadership was influencing her decision-making, she acknowledged the possibility but did not refute it.
Mimi Chakraborty emphasized her commitment to her mental well-being, stating, “I refuse to compromise my peace of mind. I will not remain in a situation where I am not content.”
