Triangular Contest Expected In Lakshadweep For Lok Sabha Elections

The upcoming Lok Sabha election in the union territory of Lakshadweep is set to witness a three-way contest between the NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar), Congress, and the NCP (Ajit Pawar) supported by the BJP.

The current Lok Sabha member from Lakshadweep, Mohammed Faizal Padippura of the NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar), will be facing competition from Muhammed Hamdulla Sayeed of the Congress and Yusuf T P of the NCP (Ajit Pawar).

Scheduled to take place on April 19 in a single phase, the Lakshadweep constituency is reserved for the Scheduled Tribes.

In the previous Lok Sabha elections held in 2019, Mohammed Faizal Padippura emerged victorious with 22,851 votes, while Muhammed Hamdulla Sayeed of the Congress received 22,028 votes.

It’s worth noting that Muhammed Hamdulla Sayeed had previously won the Lok Sabha polls in 2009 for the Congress.

Yusuf TP, the candidate from NCP (Ajit Pawar), is set to contest the polls with the backing of the BJP.

For this Lok Sabha election, Lakshadweep will have a total of 55 polling stations in the constituency.

The nationwide general elections for the 543 Lok Sabha seats are scheduled to be held in seven phases, with the first phase set for April 19. The counting of votes is slated for June 4.

Across the country, nearly 97 crore voters are eligible to cast their votes in this crucial democratic exercise.
