As Prime Minister Narendra Modi gears up for his visit to West Bengal today, the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) has launched a scathing attack on the central government, questioning its responsiveness to the grievances of MGNREGA beneficiaries in the state.
In a statement, the AITC raised concerns over the delay in addressing the concerns of deprived MGNREGA beneficiaries, highlighting the Mamata Banerjee-led state government’s commitment to clearing dues despite the Centre’s alleged withholding of funds.
The statement further questioned the Prime Minister’s association with Suvendu Adhikari, a figure linked to a CBI FIR, challenging the government’s stance on combating corruption.
TMC MP Saugata Roy took a jab at PM Modi, asserting that despite his frequent campaigns in the state, the BJP’s electoral prospects remain bleak. Roy dismissed the Prime Minister’s efforts to bolster the BJP’s standing in West Bengal, asserting that it would not translate into electoral success.
Earlier criticisms from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee targeted the central government’s obstruction of fund disbursement to the state. Banerjee pledged to provide funds for the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana if the Centre fails to release allocations by April 1, mirroring the state’s actions concerning MGNREGA funds.
Meanwhile, PM Modi’s visit is slated to include the inauguration and dedication of multiple development projects in Arambagh, Hooghly, worth over Rs 7,200 crore. These initiatives span various sectors, including railways, ports, oil pipelines, LPG supply, and wastewater treatment.
Among the notable projects is the inauguration of Indian Oil’s Haldia-Barauni Crude Oil Pipeline, aimed at enhancing oil supply to refineries in Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal. Additionally, infrastructure upgrades at Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port and railway expansions are on the agenda.
PM Modi will also inaugurate an LPG bottling plant in Kharagpur and wastewater treatment projects funded by the World Bank in Howrah, Bally, Kamarhati, and Baranagar.
The Prime Minister’s visit marks a significant juncture in West Bengal’s development landscape, amidst political tensions and ongoing debates over resource allocation and governance priorities.
