Tripura records 13.69% voter turnout till 9 am, says EC

Tripura recorded 13.69% voter turnout in the ongoing polling for 60 Assembly seats as of 9 a.m. on Thursday, according to the Election Commission (EC).

Polling began at 7 a.m. and will continue until 4 p.m. West Tripura had 14.56 percent voting until 9 a.m., while Dhalai had 13.62 percent, Gomati had 12.99 percent, Khowai had 13.08 percent, North Tripura had 12.79 percent, Sepahijala had 13.61 percent, Unakoti had 13.34 percent, and South Tripura had 14.34 percent. The BJP’s candidate in West Tripura’s Town Borodowali is Chief Minister Manik Shah.

In the ongoing elections for 60 Assembly seats, the fate of the 259 candidates will be decided.
This year’s elections will feature a triangular battle between the Congress-CPM alliance and the Trinamool Congress, which will run candidates in various districts. The Tipra Motha, an alliance of regional groups, is the election’s dark horse and could emerge as the kingmaker in the case of a hung Assembly.

The BJP has declared candidates for 55 assembly seats, with the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura taking the remaining five (IPFT). The Left-Congress coalition announced candidates for all 60 seats.

According to the Election Commission, there are over 28.14 lakh registered voters this year, with 14,15,233 men, 13,99,289 women, and 62 third-gender voters.

A total of 3,337 polling stations are up for business. With 97 all-women police stations, adequate security precautions have been prepared for the elections. There are 94,815 voters between the ages of 18 and 19, and 6,21,505 between the ages of 22 and 29. The age group 40-59 has the most voters, with 9,81,089.
In the current Assembly elections, 259 candidates from various parties are running.

Tripura is the first state to hold elections this year, with Nagaland and Meghalaya following on February 27.
