TV Somanathan Named New Cabinet Secretary, Succeeding Rajiv Gauba

The secretary of finance, TV Somanathan has named as the new Cabinet Secretary and will take over the role on August 30, succeeding Rajiv Gauba.

The official order said ‘The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of TV Somanathan, IAS (TN:87) as Cabinet Secretary with a tenure of two years from August 30, 2024.’

In addition, Somanathan has also named Officer on Special Duty in the cabinet secretariat.

‘The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has also approved the appointment of Shri T V Somanathan, IAS as Officer on Special Duty in the Cabinet Secretariat from the date he joins the assignment till he takes over as Cabinet Secretary.’

Meanwhile, Somanathan is a 1987-batch IAS officer of Tamil Nadu cadre and has post of Union Finance Secretary and Secretary, Expenditure.
