Officials reported that Gurez and Tulail tehsils in the Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir were struck by two avalanches on Friday. However, neither property damage nor fatalities were reported. Today, two minor avalanches were observed in the tehsils of Gurez and Tulail; “Neither property damage nor fatalities occurred,” District Collector Bandipora stated.
However, earlier on February 1, an avalanche in Gulmarg, Jammu and Kashmir, claimed the lives of two foreigners. Two local guides and 19 foreign nationals were rescued during the rescue operations.
Baramulla Police reported on Wednesday that an avalanche struck the Afarwat peak in the region, trapping some skiers in the well-known ski resort of Gulmarg.
In a statement, the Baramulla police said that on Wednesday, three teams of 21 foreigners and two local guides went skiing in Affarwat Gulmarg.
The ski teams were stranded in Gulmarg’s Hapatkhud Kangdori, where the people went skiing. Twenty-one of the twenty-three trapped individuals were rescued through joint rescue efforts carried out by the tourism department and the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
Two people from outside the country were killed. For further medical and legal procedures, their bodies were taken to the hospital.
