The Union Cabinet, in a meeting held on Wednesday, has given its approval for the establishment of an autonomous institution named “Mera Yuva Bharat” (MY Bharat). This institution is designed to function as a comprehensive facilitator empowered by technology for the development and empowerment of the youth.
The primary goal of MY Bharat is to offer an equitable platform for young individuals to realize their aspirations and contribute to the creation of a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India) across various government sectors. The announcement was made by Anurag Thakur, the Minister of Information and Broadcasting, during a press conference held after the Union Cabinet meeting.
Minister Thakur mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had recently interacted with Asian Games medal winners and athletes who had achieved India’s highest medal count in the continental event. It was during this interaction that the decision to establish Mera Yuva Bharat, or MY Bharat, was made.
The key objective of MY Bharat is to create a holistic government platform for youth development. Under this new initiative, young people will be empowered to act as catalysts for positive change in their communities and contribute to the nation’s progress, effectively bridging the gap between the government and its citizens. Minister Thakur highlighted that Mera Yuva Bharat aims to harness the immense energy and potential of the youth for the betterment of the nation.
Mera Yuva Bharat will specifically target young people between the ages of 15 and 29, aligning with the definition of ‘Youth’ outlined in the National Youth Policy. Additionally, for program components tailored to adolescents, beneficiaries will fall within the age group of 10 to 19 years.
