Union Home Minister Amit Shah made a huge revelation at Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. According to Amit Shah, the Kerala government had gotten an early warning of potential landslides in Wayanad on July 23.
This warning was given a week prior to an unfortunate landslide, which caused around 150 deaths and 200 people injured.

Issuing a statement, home minister Amit Shah said ‘They kept on talking about early warning. I want to clarify that on July 23, the government of India gave an early warning to the government of Kerala, which was 7 days before the incident, and then on July 24 and 25 too early warning was given. On July 26, a warning was given that there was a chance of heavy rainfall of more than 20 cm, and there were chances of landslides, there could be mudflow and people could lose lives in this.’
Furthermore, he also added that government has spent Rs, 2,000 crore after 2014 over early warning system.

Later, he slammed Pinarayi Vijayan led Kerala government for not taking action on warnings given by the centre. He also said that around 9 NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) were sent to Kerala following heavy monsoon.
Afterward he asserted that loss of lives could have been decreased if Kerala government has taken action on the provided warnings and on NDRF’s arrival.
In additon, he also added that India among 4 nations of the world, who possess the capability of giving natural disaster 7 days in advance.
