In a panel discussion moderated by Rana Yashwant, Editor-in-Chief of India News with Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Union Minister for Culture & Tourism as the guest various issues were discussed.
Rana Yashwant warmly welcomed Gajendra Singh Shekhawat to the discussion. He began by mentioning the recent birth centenary of the legendary singer Mukesh. Rana recalled Shekhawat’s fondness for Mukesh and his song “Oh Mehbooba… tere dil ke paas hain meri manzil-e-maqsood,” which Shekhawat had shared was one of his favorites while growing up.
Turning to the present, Rana noted the significant responsibilities Shekhawat now holds. He asked about the journey towards India’s ambitious goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047, a vision articulated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Rana emphasized the importance of the groundwork being laid in 2024 and 2025 and inquired about the strength of the path towards this goal.
Shekhawat responded by highlighting that the objective of transforming India into a developed nation is not new. “Prime Minister Modi introduced the concept of ‘Amrit Kaal,’ but this vision predates even the BJP, originating during the Jan Sangh era. The goal has always been to make India powerful, prosperous, and affluent,” Shekhawat stated. He explained that the path to achieving this vision involves uplifting the lives of the rural poor, farmers, oppressed, deprived, and Dalits. “Empowering the weakest sections of society and increasing their strength is essential to elevate India to the ranks of developed nations.”
Rana then shifted the focus to the recently announced 2024-25 Budget, mentioning the criticism from Rahul Gandhi and his party that the Budget is designed only to save the government. He asked Shekhawat to address the strength of their path in this context.
Shekhawat dismissed the criticism, describing it as narrow-minded. He questioned why previous governments did not address key issues such as OBC reservation. “Blaming others for their own mistakes and failures has become a part of their nature,” Shekhawat remarked. He accused the Congress party of raising questions to distract from real issues and avoid scrutiny.
The discussion moved to the recent election results, where Congress received outcomes that they believe validate their strategies. Rana brought up Rahul Gandhi’s strong stance on conducting a caste-based census and asked for Shekhawat’s perspective.
Shekhawat noted that Rahul Gandhi has been advocating for a caste-based census for the past 4-5 years. He urged a close examination of the election results over this period, both in state assemblies and the Lok Sabha. “Analyze the results at a micro level, and you will see how much the people of the country have endorsed this issue,” Shekhawat concluded.
