Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed the Jal Pujan ceremony at Nilwande dam and dedicated the dam’s canal network in Ahmednagar district to the people of Maharashtra on Thursday. Additionally, he oversaw the release of water from the Nilwande Dam. This marked a significant milestone as the construction of the dam’s 85-km-long left canal faced considerable delays due to funding constraints.
The completed canal network is poised to benefit the residents of 182 villages across 7 Tehsils, encompassing 6 in Ahmednagar district and 1 in Nashik district, by facilitating water distribution through piped networks. The conception of the Nilwande Dam dates back to 1970, with the project’s development currently estimated at a cost of approximately Rs 5177 crore.
Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister inaugurated multiple development projects amounting to about Rs 7,500 crore across diverse sectors. Notably, he unveiled the new Darshan Queue complex at Shirdi, which is designed to offer comfortable waiting areas for devotees. The complex boasts several waiting halls with a combined seating capacity of over ten thousand, equipped with modern amenities such as air-conditioned public facilities, cloakrooms, booking counters, prasad counters, and an information center. The foundation stone for this complex was laid by the Prime Minister in October 2018, as confirmed by the Prime Minister’s Office.
During the public program, PM Modi launched the ‘Namo Shetkari Mahasanman Nidhi Yojana’, aimed at providing an additional annual amount of Rs 6000 to over 86 lakh beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana in Maharashtra.
Later in the day, the Prime Minister is scheduled to visit Goa to inaugurate the 37th National Games.
