UP Police Arrests 122 For Impersonation

More than 120 individuals have been apprehended in Uttar Pradesh for impersonating and cheating during the police constable recruitment examination, according to officials. The arrests occurred between February 15 and 17, with the suspects caught using cheat sheets. Among them, some were detained for impersonating genuine candidates, while others were arrested for deceiving aspiring candidates.

Director General of Police Prashant Kumar revealed that out of the total 122 arrests, significant numbers were made in various districts such as Etah, Mau, Prayagraj, and Siddharthanagar. Additional arrests were reported in Ghazipur, Azamgarh, Gorakhpur, Jaunpur, Firozabad, Kaushambi, Hathras, Jhansi, Varanasi, Agra, Kanpur, Ballia, Deoria, and Bijnor.

A surprise inspection was conducted by UP Police at two examination centres in Lucknow’s Gomtinagar area, where over 48 lakh candidates are taking the exam across two shifts on February 17 and 18.

Amitabh Yash, Additional Director General of the STF, confirmed that those apprehended were caught using cheat sheets, with some arrested for impersonating genuine candidates and others for deceiving candidates. The arrests took place between February 15 and 17.

In Etah, 15 individuals were detained by a surveillance team from the Kotwali police station for allegedly planning to employ unfair tactics in the exam. Additional Superintendent of Police Dhananjay Kushwaha mentioned that they are currently under interrogation.

Meanwhile, in Ballia district, Saleem Ansari was apprehended for reportedly collecting money from candidates with promises of ensuring their success in the exam. The police seized Rs 8.99 lakh from Ansari, which he allegedly collected from participating candidates, according to a statement released by the Ballia Police.
