UP: Yogi Govt Launches 1st Phase of Safe City Project with 22,000 Cameras

The Yogi Adityanath-led government in Uttar Pradesh is diligently advancing its Safe City project, marking a significant milestone by identifying approximately 22,000 cameras to enhance city surveillance.

A press release from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) revealed that in alignment with the Chief Minister’s vision, the Home Department has selected 21,968 cameras for integration in the initial phase of the Safe City project. These cameras will be deployed across 17 municipal corporations and Gautam Buddh Nagar, with 15,732 already integrated into the control room.

Furthermore, 4,150 hotspots have been pinpointed for the installation of additional cameras, signifying the government’s dedication to bolstering security measures.

The press release also noted that 1,861 hotspots have been identified for patrolling, with 656 Police Response Vehicles (PRVs) responsible for patrolling 2,324 dark spots. Out of these, 1,416 now have streetlights installed, enhancing public safety.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath recently convened a review meeting with Home Department officials to assess the progress of the Safe City Project. During the meeting, the Chief Minister was briefed on the project’s developments, and he issued directives to expedite the remaining tasks related to the Home Department.

The Safe City project is advancing swiftly in accordance with the Chief Minister’s vision, with the timely completion of tasks involving the identification of government and private CCTV cameras, dark spots, and streetlight installation.

The press release outlined, “The Home Department has identified more than 21,000 cameras for integration with the Smart City Control Room in 17 municipal corporations and Gautam Buddh Nagar. Among them, 11,544 cameras have been marked for integration with the Integrated Command and Control Center (ICCC) in 10 municipal corporations, while 7,285 cameras have been marked for integration with the Integrated Traffic Management System (ITMS) in 7 municipal corporations.”

Additionally, 3,139 cameras have been earmarked for integration with the ICCC in Gautam Buddh Nagar.

The release continued, “Out of these, 8,940 cameras have already been integrated with ICCCs by the Urban Development Department. Additionally, apart from the Police department, 5684 cameras of 10 Municipal Corporations have been connected to the ICCC, and 1108 cameras of 7 Municipal Corporations to the ITMS. Thus, a total of more than 15,000 CCTVs have been connected to ICCC and ITMS.”

Notably, the highest number of 3,139 CCTV cameras have been identified by the UP Police for Gautam Buddh Nagar, followed by Kanpur with 3,019 cameras, Meerut with 2,120, Ghaziabad with 1,464, and Lucknow with 1,461 cameras.

The release also highlighted the identification of 2,324 dark spots, with Gautam Buddh Nagar accounting for 322, Kanpur for 268, Ghaziabad for 263, Varanasi for 196, and Aligarh for 182 dark spots.

In addition to this, the UP Police has identified 4,150 hotspots for the installation of CCTV cameras. Among these, Varanasi leads with 728 cameras, followed by Lucknow with 509, Kanpur with 449, Aligarh with 353, and Meerut with 316 cameras.

Regarding patrolling through UP-112, 1,861 locations have been identified, with Lucknow having 299 locations, Gorakhpur with 190, Saharanpur with 183, Kanpur and Prayagraj with 173 each, and Meerut with 151 locations. To facilitate patrolling, 656 PRVs have been deployed, including 87 in Lucknow, 80 in Kanpur, 63 in Gautam Buddh Nagar, 51 in Meerut, and 50 in Ghaziabad.
