Uttar Pradesh Allocates Rs 83.13 Crore for Compensation to Farmers Across 52 Districts

In a significant relief effort, the Uttar Pradesh government has taken decisive steps to address the plight of farmers who were previously excluded from compensation for crop damages caused by natural calamities over the past two years, as confirmed by an official statement.

Relief Commissioner GS Naveen disclosed that, in line with the directives from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, an extensive re-survey was conducted across all districts of the state to identify and provide compensation to farmers who had been overlooked in previous assessments.

As a result of this initiative, a total sum of Rs 83,13,46,875 has been disbursed to these farmers to mitigate their losses incurred during the fiscal years 2021-22 and 2022-23, based on the comprehensive findings of the survey.

The compensation provided by the state government adheres to the guidelines set forth by the Government of India, offering assistance to farmers whose crop losses exceed 33 per cent due to floods, hailstorms, and excessive rainfall.

However, challenges arose due to data discrepancies during the online application process in certain districts, leading to many farmers being deprived of their rightful benefits. Efforts are currently underway to rectify these issues and ensure affected farmers receive the support they deserve.

Relief Commissioner Naveen highlighted the complexities involved in compensating a significant number of farmers affected by crop damage, citing errors in Aadhaar details, account numbers, and instances of data duplication as key hurdles.

In response to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s directive, a re-survey is being conducted to expedite the process of transferring financial aid to farmers who were previously excluded from compensation.

Moreover, the Relief Department has allocated over Rs 38 crore in compensation for farmers in six districts severely affected by excessive rainfall during January and February 2024.

These districts, including Hamirpur, Saharanpur, Kanpur Dehat, Banda, Chandauli, and Prayagraj, witnessed significant crop losses due to the adverse weather conditions during this period.

Based on the survey reports compiled by the District Magistrates, a total compensation amounting to Rs 38,61,67,322 has been released to address the specific needs of each district, ensuring that affected farmers receive timely assistance at the grassroots level.
