Uttarakhand: CM Dhami Issues Alert To DM Amid Heavy Rainfall

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has instructed the district magistrates across the state to stay alert and work closely with relief and rescue teams in response to the current rainfall situation.

According to an official release from the Chief Minister’s office, “CM Dhami has said that he is in constant touch with the concerned officials of the areas affected by waterlogging due to heavy rains in the state.”

The Chief Minister has instructed all district magistrates in the state to stay vigilant and coordinate continuously with the SDRF, NDRF, and other rescue teams. According to the release, he has urged residents to leave their homes only for essential tasks due to the Meteorological Department’s heavy rain alert across many areas. He emphasized that ensuring the safety of both residents and visitors is of utmost priority.

Disaster Management Authority Joint CEO Mohammad Obaidulla Ansari told ANI that an orange alert has been issued for Dehradun and Bageshwar, while other districts are under a yellow alert. Following the weather department’s warnings, all districts have been instructed to remain cautious. He noted that no cloudbursts have been reported. Currently, 265 roads are blocked, with 60 reopened, and efforts continue to clear the remaining roads. Additionally, rising river levels are prompting continuous warnings.

Earlier today, rescue teams recovered the body of a woman buried under debris from a landslide that struck a building in Ghansali, Uttarakhand. The landslide, caused by heavy rain in village Toli, trapped the woman and her daughter under the collapsed structure. The disaster control room was alerted around 3 am about the incident, which occurred at approximately 1:30 am. The SDRF team, led by Chief Constable Kuldeep Singh from Post Ghansali, promptly arrived at the scene to begin rescue operations.

“During an intensive search by SDRF and District Police, the body of a woman, Sarita Devi, buried in the debris has been recovered,” SDRF stated.

A search operation is currently underway for the woman’s daughter. Recent heavy rains in Uttarakhand have caused landslides in the hilly regions, frequently blocking the highway to Badrinath with rubble at various points.
