At least 15 people, including a police sub-inspector and five home guards, were killed and several injured after a transformer exploded in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district on Wednesday morning.
People injured due to electrocution at the under-construction Namami Gange project on the banks of the Alaknanda River in Chamoli have been airlifted to AIIMS Rishikesh by helicopter for treatment.
“Around 15 people including a police sub-inspector & three home guards have died. The investigation is underway. Prima Facie reveals that there was current on the railing and the investigation will reveal the further details,” says Additional Director General of Police, Uttarakhand, V Murugesan
Condoling the incident of Uttarakhand’s Chamoli, state Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday said that orders have been given to conduct a Magisterial inquiry.
Pushkar Singh Dhami, the chief minister of Uttarakhand, has also ordered that Rs. 5 lahks and Rs. 1 lakh each be provided to the deceased’s dependents and the injured, respectively.
Meanwhile, Home Minister Amit Shah phoned CM Dhami to ask about the Chamoli tragedy.
Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath took to Twitter to share his feeling about the incident, “The loss of lives in an electrical accident in Chamoli, Uttarakhand is extremely sad and heart-wrenching. My condolences are with the bereaved families. Lord Shri Ram is prayed to give place to the departed souls in his holy feet and speedy recovery to the injured,”
