PM Modi Names ‘Vikram’ Landing Area ‘Shiv Shakti’, Chandrayaan-2 Impact Site Named ‘Tiranga Point’

During his visit to ISRO’s Telemetry Tracking & Command Network Mission Control Complex in Bengaluru on August 26, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that the location where Chandrayaan-3’s lunar lander touched down would be designated as ‘Shivshakti’.

During his interaction with the ISRO team at the ISRO Telemetry Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC), he also revealed the location where Chandrayaan-2 made its mark on the Lunar surface back in 2019. He announced that the crash-landing site would be recognized as the ‘Tiranga Point’.

He added saying, “Women scientists played a key role in Chandrayaan-3. this ‘Shiv Shakti’ point will inspire the upcoming generations to use science for the welfare of people. The welfare of people is our supreme commitment.”

Speaking about the soft landing on the moon’s south pole, the prime minister added, “Our scientists built an artificial Moon at ISRO research facility to test the soft landing of the lander. The lander was bound to succeed as it passed several tests before going there (to the Moon).”

Prime Minister Modi traveled directly from Athens, the capital of Greece, to Bengaluru to engage with ISRO scientists regarding the accomplishment of the Chandrayaan-3 mission.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister declared that August 23, the date of the Chandrayaan-3 lander’s landing on the moon’s surface, will be recognized as “National Space Day.”

Amidst a hearty welcome, he reached the ISRO headquarters in Bengaluru on Saturday morning.
Following a space voyage spanning 40 days, the Chandrayaan-3 mission accomplished a successful lunar landing on August 23. On this occasion, the Prime Minister virtually connected with the ISRO team at the Mission Operations Complex (MOX) at ISTRAC while he was in Johannesburg for the 15th BRICS Summit.

Before his interaction with ISRO scientists, the Prime Minister chanted the slogan ‘Jai Vigyan Jai Anusandhan’ and extended greetings to the crowd gathered along the streets outside HAL airport upon his arrival in Bengaluru.
“I could not stop myself as I was not in the country, but I decided to visit Bengaluru first and meet our scientists right after visiting India,” PM Modi on his arrival to the Garden City.
